The StresStimulus controller can monitor the performance of Windows machines connected via LAN/WAN/VPN or on the Internet.

LAN/WAN/VPN

In the LAN/WAN /VPN environment, where cross-machines communication via port TCP 139 is permissible, StresStimulus uses the same API as Windows performance monitor (Perfmon). Therefore, any Windows performance counters can be monitored. Since Windows networking and instrumentation infrastructure is utilized, there is no need to install any additional software on remote servers.

Internet

To monitor servers connected via the Internet or other Networks were cross-machines communication via pot TCP 139 is not allowed, StresStimulus uses a PerfMon Agent. A PerfMon Agent is installed on a server to be monitored and runs as a service on a given TCP port (49996 by default).

Installing PerfMon Agent

The PerfMon Agent is bundled together with the regular StresStimulus installer. To install it, download and run the StresStimulus installer.

At the Select Installation Type screen shows up, select StresStimulus PerfMon Agent radio button.

When installing the StresStimulus Load Testing Tool, PerfMon Agent is installed automatically, but the service is not started. The service can be started when StresStimulus Agent Mode is enabled. For more, click here.

You may not install the PerfMon Agent on a machine that already has the StresStimulus Load Testing Tool installed (and vice versa). Uninstall the Load Testing Tool before installing the PerfMon Agent.

Configuring PerfMon Agent

Once the PerfMon Agent is installed, there is no configuration necessary. It will automatically start listening on TCP port 49996. To start/stop the service or change the listening port, open the StresStimulus PerfMon Agent application.

To start or stop the service, click the Start or Stop buttons, respectively.

To change the listening TCP port, stop the service then go to File > Change Port. In the dialog, change the port and click OK. Start the service.
