When an application's login procedure changes, you can update existing test cases efficiently without re-recording them entirely. Follow these steps to incorporate the new login process:

Record a New Login Test Case

  • Create a test case named "New_Login_Only" (or a similar descriptive name).
  • Record only the steps involved in the login procedure, including the following transactions:
    • Landing_Page – Navigating to the application's login page.
    • Enter_Credentials – Entering user credentials and submitting the login form.

This focused approach allows you to integrate the new login process into existing test cases without full re-recording, saving time and effort.

Important

Use transaction names that match your existing test cases.

Integrate the New Login Procedure into Existing Test Cases

After recording the new login test case, you need to clone its contents and insert them at the beginning of previously recorded test cases. Follow these steps to seamlessly update your test cases without re-recording them, ensuring consistency and efficiency in your test automation:

  • Clone the New Login Sequence
    • Right-click the "New_Login_Only" test case.
    • Select Clone test case content...

  • Choose the Destination
    • In the Destination picker, select the target test case that requires the new login procedure.
    • Enable Insert into (on top) to add the new login sequence at the beginning of the test case.
    • Click OK to complete the cloning process.

Renaming login transactions

When cloning login content, matching transaction names in the target test case are automatically:

  • Renamed with "_old" suffix
  • Disabled to prevent execution

This ensures the new login sequence replaces the old one without manual intervention.

Moving Auto-Correlation Extractors to the New Login Procedure

After replacing the login procedure, some auto-correlation extractors may still be associated with the old login process. To prevent login errors, these extractors must be reassigned to the new login procedure.

Follow these steps to move the extractors:

  1. Open the Extractors Node

    • In the Workflow tree, navigate to the Extractors node.
  2. Identify Extractors from the Old Login Procedure

    • Click the Show extractors from disabled transactions to move to the replacement transactions button.

    • This will highlight auto-correlation extractors that are still linked to the old login procedure.
  1. Reassign Extractors to the New Login Procedure

    • Drag and drop the highlighted extractors into the appropriate location within the new login procedure.

By completing these steps, all necessary extractors will be correctly mapped, ensuring a seamless login process.
